50's and 60's Alumni--Do You Remember?

This was probably before my time at camp which is why I'm specifically reaching out to the alumni from the 50's and 60's.

I'm looking to gather information about local Flatbrookville history.

From the Mo, over the bridge, on the left hand side of the road, across from the entrance to camp there was a family who lived in a cottage.

*Does anyone remember the house and if so what it looked like?

*Did anyone ever meet any of the family members who lived there?

I've come to learn that a semi-famous author/poet, his wife and their son, who went on to become a pretty reknowned philosopher, lived there.

Please post back on the site or e-mail me directly.

THANKS VERY MUCH!

Shelly - Perhaps it time to contact the Fuller Family - Glen was the oldest son of Red Fuller - maybe he still lives in the metro Flatbrookville area (their family house was not far from the Walpack Inn)

There was a famous 60's record producer that lived in Flatbrookville too. I have the info on an old disc and will send it to you along with a picture of the couple at their cottage that overlooked River's Bend.

Hi Shelly- The last time I was in the area (about 4-5 years ago) the Fullers were still in the area. Go over the bridge from the camp, make a right turn, drive a little ways (before Walpack) and the house is on the left. There was a sign (it may have been on the mailbox) that said Fuller. June

June, Lonny and Scott-
Thanks! Have to check out where you say the Fullers were. Have not been towards Walpak in several years but went in the opposite direction and found a mailbox that said Fuller. Possible that there are 2 - 3 generations now in the area. Lonny--look forward to seeing what you have on hand. Thanks!

I was there in those years, but I don't remember who lived there. I do remember the postmaster and postmistress. I remember the Lodge and the 8-room house well. I haven't seen anyone refer to them here.

Hi Sharon-
The couple who lived across from the entrance to camp were the Rorty's--Jim and Winifred. Geoff Hoff, grandson of the owners of the Mo (you can refer to some earlier posts on the site) recalled spending time with the Rorty's and wondered if anyone knew of what became of them and their cottage. Cottage is gone...

I didn't even remember that there was a cottage across from the entrance to camp, leave alone who lived there! I remember the Rosencranzes from the Post Office, but no one else from Flatbrookville. Maybe my mother will remember the Rortys, but I'm sure she'll have no idea of what became of them.

I don't remember anything either but I was there recently and there are 2 stone(cemented river rock)pillars about 3 ft. high that flank what looks to have once been a driveway. The Rosencrans still live next to where the Mo was and also have a farm further down on the opposite side of the road.

There was a gas station on the left with a small house directly across the road, located close to The Lodge. The station and house belonged to Ben and Rozlyn Rosenkrants. They were a lovely couple, and Ben would service all the camp vehicles and also act as a stand by handyman. He was an excellent mechanic and his skills were often needed in camp.

Weren't the Rosencranzes also the postmaster and postmistress in Flatbrookville?

When I do my blog entry of my memories, I have an interesting small-world story to tell about them.

Dave and Sharon-
There is still a garage on the left but no longer functioning as a service station. It's across the street from the Rosencrans house. The Rosencrans mailbox said "Walpak" so not sure if the Flatbrookville p.o. even exists anymore. And before I sign off-HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!!!

Same to you, Shelley, and to all the other Pokono-Ramona alumni. Here's to a great 2008 full of more PR memories.
