SHARON DOMBEY'S "FACES of the 50's and 60's"

She's Rabbi Herman's granddaughter, (Pokono's original owner)...
Dave Dombey's daughter, Judy Turner's + Dave Herman's niece.
She grew up at Camp and was a Camper from 1958-62 + '66.

Here's the first part of her picture collection...
The Fabulous 50's and the Swingin' 60's.

(It's so big, we made a new Picture Album for it !)

if you recognize any faces, send me their names

Thanks for posting these for me, Randy.

In the "Larry Herman" photo, Larry is the one lying down on the bench. I really wish I could remember more names, so I'm hoping eventually these people can all be identified.

As a minor correction, my photos are from 58-62 and a few from 66, but I was a camper from 57-62 and spent at least part of the summers of 1950-1955 in camp with my mother (plus in utero in 1949!). I think I was also in a bunk for part of the summer in 1954 and 1955. Somehow I remember that part of the summer I turned 5, which would have been 1954, was spent in a bunk. I remember my first counselor's name was Trudy.

Hi,

this is Carl Slotnick........
I was at Pokono from 1956 thru
1966 or 67 ( I can't remember)

In your phot "2 couples" the guys are
Freddy Gelfand on the left &
Mickey (Mike) Alexander, who was my closest friend at camp........ my
guess is the picture was from 1962
'63 or '64

Thanks Carl. I remember you. Freddy's name rings a bell, but not Mickey's. This must has been '62, as I wasn't in camp in '63 or '64.

Thanks!
Sharon

I went to camp from 1950-56. Any pix from then?

I was at camp for only one summer: 1960. I was 13. My counsellor was Margo, the musical was Annie Get Your Gun, I had a crush on a waiter named Bob Gorman ( who liked a girl named Valerie), and my friends Vivian Weiss and Joann Schild came with me. It is wonderful to see these pages. Vivian and I were just reminiscing about Pocono Ramona and couldn't think of what we called that treacherous swinging bridge. If anyone reads this, please get in touch via email: ewakerman@aol.com

I went to camp for 10 or 11 years with Roberta Lamnin, Ruth Ernst, Alice Lipsius...her sister was Iris Lipsius, Margo Pomorance...she had a brother David. My brother Seth Blumenfeld was a camper and a waiter. Seth was very friendly with Marty Swartzenberger. We are now 80 -to 76 years young. Both Rabbis were their and Judy and Jerry Turner were the heads of camp. Maybe I was at camp 12 years. Another popular game was Jacks...played during rest hour after lunch. Also Larry Herman was my first kiss...just once..I don’t know if he did it on a dare..or what. A bunch of us were coming up the stairs from the water front. Wonderful times and great friends at camp. Any reunion planned ... or is that done?

Yes, Margo Pomerance! My counselor in 1960, the one year that I went to Pokono Ramona. You can see my memories above under "Unknown." (My name is Elyce Wakerman, but I think I was pretty unknown at camp.) Margo taught me how to apply eye make-up, and to this day I try to use her tips. I've never gotten the liner to look as fabulous as Margo did...Thanks for the Suspension Bridge reminder. It always felt death-defying to walk over it - until the day Bob Gorman was waiting for me (me?!) on the camp side.

Nice to see that I am no longer "Unknown" at Camp Pokono Ramona. Proves that if you wait long enough...
